Popular Culture is the innovative project of young artist, Henry Mowgli.

I’m happy to be working with the band Popular Culture from Austin, TX who have just released their debut album Episode on the independent label Sparrowsong (Kyle Ellison’s label). The project is the brain-child of Henry Mowgli; it consists of male led vocals and has a sort of hypnotic sound with primarily electronic production. The whole thing has a dark poppy sound, it’s somewhere between Bauhaus and Passion Pit but isn’t really confined to a particular style. Episode was recorded and mastered by Bob Ludwig (David Bowie, Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Radiohead).

I.U.D.M. (Tel Aviv, Israel) Official SXSW Showcase

Touted as Israel’s most successful rock band for nearly two decades, five times gold & platinum selling recording artists, I.U.D.M., a.k.a. Heyudim, will play an Official SXSW Showcase at The Loft, 215 E. 6th St., on  Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 10:00 – 10:40pm. I.U.D.M. will also be performing at the TLV Beach “Tune in Tel Aviv” Showcase on Friday, March 16, 2012.

Besides sharing the stage with the likes of Rage Against the Machine and Metallica – I.U.D.M. headlines regular festivals to the tune of 45,000 concert goers. I.U.D.M. is best known for their marathon live shows, whether at a club gig or at one of their signature, epic stadium shows. This seven piece rock juggernaut, known as I.U.D.M., are akin to acts like Evanescence or System of A Down, genre morphing from metal to loud rock to heavy, melodic ballads.

“We see our band like an extension of our own families,” says TT (lead vocals). The pint-sized, soft spoken, blonde continues, “We actually spend more time with the band, than our own family; performing live and making rock’n'roll records has really become a way of life.” While her bandmate/husband Tom Petrover (guitar, vocals) adds, “Music is the only thing that makes sense for us really, if you look at all the craziness flying over our heads today, with wars and conflicts everywhere, this band is really our only sanctuary.”

The veteran rockers have been working on a new project, almost 24 months in the making. “For I.U.D.M. this was really a passion project that took a lot of time to craft,” Yahav Lipinski (drummer) explains. He is referring to their as-of-yet untitled record that is set to drop later this year. The band is also in the midst of planning their next tour and album debut stateside.

I.U.D.M. arrives in Austin for SXSW on March 14th, 2012 with Tom Petrover (guitar, vocals), Orit Schachaf (lead vocals, backing guitar), Yahav Lipinski (drums), Guy Be’er (guitar), Nir Maimon (bass), Omri Agmon (guitar) and Roy Zuaretz (keyboards). You can hear them first at www.iudmband.com

I.U.D.M. will be performing in New York City on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Highline Ballroom at 9:30pm.
