Box Turtle
The modern era of music has given way to enigmas and artists of all shapes and forms. They break the norm of what we have come to expect as far as what an artist truly is. Box Turtle is one such musical project that epitomizes the essence of the modern era. Dalton Chamblee is a multi-talented instrumentalist, songwriter, recording engineer, and vocalist. He was born and raised in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and is currently based in Leander, TX. Dalton and his wife Lindsay Chamblee, a singer, make music that is thoughtful, conscious, and driven by a desire to motivate, inspire, comfort, and spread joy to all those who listen. Box Turtle will release their new EP, The Chocolate Chip Mothership, on Friday, February 19, 2021.
Dalton's indie-rock/indie-folk songwriting style is transparent, daring, hopeful, and reflective of his experiences, turning pain into purpose and lessons into studio sessions. He grew up listening to classic rock, folk, grunge, ska, and punk music and his dad taught him to play the guitar when he was 14 years old. He found music was a great way to express himself then and today.
Box Turtle has a vast array of musical influences, and they accredit their music's pivotal results to mainly classic-based artists such as Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles, The Byrds, and Neil Young. These bands' influences culminate in Box Turtle producing a musical experience that seeks to be thought-provoking. "I write all the songs. My wife wrote the lyrics to "A Dedication to You" and I put it to music. A lot of my pieces are spiritual and a little psychedelic in nature. I don't think that will change anytime soon, but maybe."
The Chocolate Chip Mothership EP was produced, engineered, and recorded at Dalton's home studio, Dawsey Ray Studios. He hired musicians from Spain, Russia, and Nashville to play the lead parts. Everything on the EP was done on-line except for the tracks that were recorded in the studio.
Dalton's previous releases included Over The Moon in 2019 and a collection of older songs called Fibs and Fairy Tales in 2020. He has been a musician for over 25 years, "picking up and learning new instruments as I go." Dalton's previous bands include Fatback Circus and Sour Bridges.
Together, Dalton and Lindsay use Box Turtle as a vehicle to express perspectives and tell stories. Their metaphysical message is love and oneness of all things.
